If I close my practice, whether due to retirement or death/incapacity, my records will need to be stored for at least 5 years
There are two types of responsibility:
1. Record Retention
2. Custodian of Records.
In the case of retirement, records retention might be sufficient.
In the case of death or permanent disability to take the responsibility a Custodian of Records is needed.
The Custodian of Records will free you up from any responsibility for access to those records.
We have always provided a Record Retention service for $199 per year.
The Custodian of Records is additional responsibility that most law firms and others charge about $5000 to $8000 one time.
Since we already have the data in our system we are able to provide the Custodial of Records service for $5000.
Which includes the record retention.
Since we will maintain the records in the same system, you do not have to print the records and hand over to an external Custodian.
